May 24 – Day of Mokiya Mokrogo. Forget-me-nots…

CrimeaPRESS reports:

People noted that on May 24, forget-me-nots were blooming everywhere. And these days were called differently: Mokei wet, Mokeev day, wet day, etc. The peasants now avoided work, because there was a sign that otherwise the hail would destroy all the crops — God would punish for disobedience.

Our ancestors also said that the holiday of Tsar-Grad, the Thunder God, was coming. They believed that he threw stones from the sky — hail. In addition, the awakening of mermaids was associated with May 24.

And it was on Mokeev’s day that the weather for the summer was predicted. The signs are:

  • If on this day the fog that formed in the evening spreads across the ground and does not end with sunrise, then there will soon be a storm. If the rain on this day begins in the afternoon, it usually does not last long.
  • Rainy weather on May 24 – there will also be a lot of rain in the summer. They said: “If the sky becomes weak, it will rain all summer.”
  • Crimson sunrise — for a stormy summer.
  • Red sunrise May 24 – there will be a lot of thunderstorms and fires in the summer.
  • It’s raining — expect a wet summer.
  • A cat sleeping with its belly up is a sign that the weather will be not just warm, but very hot. If a cat hides its muzzle under its belly, there will be cold and bad weather.
  • A tall and covered rainbow — towards the wind. If the rainbow is flat and low, it means bad weather.
Name days are celebrated today: Cyril, Methodius, Joseph, Dioscorus, Mokey, Nicodemus.
