May 29 – Fyodor Zhitnik. They say: it's an unlucky day, but you need to eat porridge

CrimeaPRESS reports:

People considered May 29th to be one of the unluckiest days of the year. At the same time, however, there is no clear explanation why the day received such difficult fame.

The church today honors the memory of St. Feodor. He came from a wealthy family that lived in Egypt. He left his home for the monastery early. Later he met the Great Pachomius and began to live with him. As soon as Pakhom died, Fedor began to manage the Tavennis monastery and the Thebaid dwelling. The famous miracle worker died in old age.

Our ancestors nicknamed Fyodor Zhitnik. They said: «Zhitnik has one concern — to harrow the barley field» They prepared barley, millet, semolina or buckwheat porridge — this was a traditional dish for May 29, since on this day they prayed for a good harvest of grains and cereals.

Signs of the day:

  • The rowan tree has bloomed — really warm days will come soon. If the rowan blooms late, the autumn will be long and harsh. Are there many berries on the rowan tree? The winter will be very cold.
  • Thunder roars on May 29 — there will be a good grain harvest.
  • The dog lies on the ground with its tongue hanging out — warm weather will set in in the coming days.
  • Frogs croak when it rains — the weather will soon improve.
  • The butterflies remained in their shelters after the rain — the bad weather will continue.
  • Water lilies have appeared — there will be no more night frosts.

Name days are celebrated today: Alexander, Arkady, George, Ephraim, Modest, Muse, Nikolai, Peter, Fedor.
