May 30 – Day of Evdokia the Whistler. Prayed for rain
CrimeaPRESS reports:
This day was also called Svistukha, Ondron, Adrian. Saint Ondron was revered by the people as the guardian of the heavenly gates. They prayed to him for rain. They asked to shed life-giving water on the fields that had received the grain and relieve the drought.
Observing the signs of May 30, they predicted summer: “What is Evdokia, so will summer be.” Usually on this day the winds were whistling with might and main.
The weather signs are:
- It is raining on the waxing moon — summer will be rainy.
- North wind on May 30 — for a cold summer.
- Cold day — there will be hail in the summer.
- Pigs dig swamps — for a rainy summer.
- A blue glow is visible on tall sharp objects (spires, tops of chimneys, bell towers, weather vanes) — a thunderstorm will begin soon.
