Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Simferopol and Crimea visited the Meganom Academy of Creative Industries (Tavrida.ART project). The Bishop got acquainted with the territory of the educational center and appreciated the first results of the educational program to create the interior decoration of the church-chapel in the name of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious, construction of which is already underway in Kapsel Bay in Crimea.
The original architecture of the temple under construction allows you to create new dynamics and plasticity in its decoration, since what you are doing is art of the 21st century. It must be canonical and at the same time carry something special, semantically and creatively justified. The appearance of your temple is very dynamic — it’s a ship. Then inside it is also possible to have a special presence, and again, I repeat, justified from the point of view of the meaning of the dynamics. And what could be more dynamic than St. George the Victorious defeating the snake? St. George the Victorious symbolizes the victory of good over evil, life over death. I think it is this idea that first of all needs to be reflected in the decoration of the temple. And of course, first of all, this is the image of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ conquering evil and death.— The head of the Crimean Metropolis gave his recommendations and parting words to the participants of the educational program, which is taking place from November 8 to December 23 at the Meganom Academy», where artists, icon painters, restorers, mosaicists and muralists are working on a design for the interior decoration of the church-chapel in the name of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious.
Together with experts, young masters are engaged in creating murals, painting icons for the iconostasis, as well as creating decorative elements for temple decoration. As part of the program, participants not only listen to lectures on the history of icon painting and Orthodoxy in Russia, but also meet with prominent representatives of church monumental art.
At this stage, 5 variants of a sketch solution for the painting of the northern wall of the temple depicting the life of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious have been worked out, color and compositional solutions have been found, fragments of the paintings have been presented in full-scale format, and solutions have been sought for the introduction of a real landscape in icon painting technique.
The curator of the program is Maria-Nicole Selivanova, head of the Tavrida art park, artist-restorer of easel and monumental painting.
The experts of the program were the icon painter, author of the design project for the painting Alexei Paromov, icon painter, member of the Union of Artists of Russia Sergei Smirnov, monumental artist, icon painter Alexander Tsypkov, specialist of the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church, Deacon Evgeniy Esaulenko, professor of RAZhViZ I. Glazunova Natalya Bitsadze.
Temple-chapel in the name of St. The Great Martyr George the Victorious in Kapsel Bay is the first experience of the Tavrida art cluster in the construction of religious buildings. The investment project is being implemented by philanthropist and temple builder Alexei Kakhidze with the support of Tavrida and in partnership with the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church. In the future, when investment proposals are received, cultural objects of other Russian religions may appear on the territory of the art cluster.
The Meganom Academy of Creative Industries is a conceptually new educational environment for young representatives of culture, art and creative industries, the core of the Tavrida art cluster (a project of Rosmolodezh). The year-round educational center allows specialists to expand their knowledge and professional competencies under the supervision of recognized leaders in the field and take part in interactive projects prepared in collaboration with leading institutions and corporate partners.
