Members of an organized group were convicted of stealing more than 2.7 million rubles from Simferopol pensioners
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Kiev District Court of Simferopol issued a verdict in a criminal case against three local residents. They were found guilty under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
It was established that members of the organized group called citizens, introduced themselves as investigators and misled them by providing false information that their relatives had been involved in a traffic accident and that money had to be paid to release them from criminal liability. The defendants met with pensioners who transferred their savings to them. Thus, the group members stole more than 2.7 million rubles from 5 citizens. Illegal actions of convicts were suppressed by internal affairs officers— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the defendants to 2 years, 3 years and 3 years 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony. The criminal investigation against other members of the organized group continues.
