In Yalta, the city court convicted four local residents in a criminal case. They were found guilty under paragraph “a” of Part 3 of Art. 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extortion).
The court found that the leader of an organized criminal group, against whom a criminal case is being considered in a separate proceeding by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea, created a permanent organized criminal group, which included, among other things, previously convicted persons.
The men, under various pretexts, extorted money from residents of the region. The convicts demanded that the Yalta resident hand over funds, pointing out that he had debt obligations. A victim from the city of Alushta was extorted 940 thousand rubles, allegedly for compensation for damage caused by a traffic accident. After the woman handed over part of the money, the convicts were detained by internal affairs officers,” the Crimean prosecutor’s office gave details.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the group members to imprisonment for terms ranging from 8 years and 6 months to 9 years. They will serve their sentences in strict and special regime correctional colonies. The court’s verdict did not enter into legal force.
