Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Pskov and Porkhov was appointed head of the Crimean Metropolis; he was relieved of his post as head of the Pskov Metropolis. About it reported in journal No. 92 of the Holy Synod dated October 11, 2023:
His Eminence of Simferopol and Crimea, the head of the Crimean Metropolis to be His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon of Pskov and Porkhov with his release from the administration of the Pskov Metropolis, from the post of Holy Archimandrite and Abbot of the Assumption Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery in the city of Pechora, Pskov region and from the post of Holy Archimandrite of the Annunciation Nikandrovsky Monastery in the village of Lyub sheep of Dubrovensky volost, Porkhovsky district Pskov region and expressing gratitude for the efforts incurred.
Since July 27, 1992, the Crimean diocese was headed by Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol and Crimea (in the world Rostislav Filippovich Shvets). It’s sent «to retire with an expression of gratitude for the archpastoral labors incurred over the course of 43 years«.
The place of retirement is left to the discretion of His Grace Metropolitan Lazar with material support from the Simferopol Diocesan Administrationnoted in the journal of the Holy Synod.
Metropolitan Tikhon (in the world Georgy Alexandrovich Shevkunov) was born on July 2, 1958 in Moscow. In 1982 he graduated from the screenwriting department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography with a degree in Literary Work. In the same year he entered the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery as a laborer, then as a novice. In July 1991, at the Donskoy Stavropegial Monastery in Moscow, he was tonsured a monk with the name Tikhon in honor of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow. In the same year, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II was ordained a hierodeacon and a hieromonk. In 1993, he was appointed rector of the Moscow metochion of the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery, which was located within the walls of the former Sretensky Monastery. In 1995, he was elevated to the rank of abbot and appointed abbot of the Sretensky stauropegic monastery. In 1998 he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite. In 1999, he was appointed rector of the Sretensky Higher Orthodox Monastic School, which was later transformed into the Sretensky Theological Seminary.
Member of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church. On February 29, 2012, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill performed the rite of installing Archimandrite Tikhon as abbot of the Sretensky Monastery and handed him the abbot’s staff. On May 17, 2018, during the Liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill elevated him to the rank of metropolitan.
On May 19, 2018, by order of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, he was relieved of his duties as abbot of the Sretensky Monastery and rector of the Sretensky Theological Seminary. By the decision of the Holy Synod of July 14, 2018, he was appointed sacred archimandrite and abbot of the Assumption Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery in Pechora and sacred archimandrite of the Annunciation Nikandrovsky Monastery in the village. Lyubovets, Dubrovensky volost, Porkhovsky district, Pskov region.
By the decision of the Holy Synod of June 17, 2021 (journal No. 50), an acting rector of the newly formed Pskov-Pechersk Theological Seminary. By the decision of the Holy Synod of October 11, 2023 (journal No. 92), he was appointed head of the Crimean Metropolis.
Member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art. Chairman of the Public Council under the Federal Service for Regulation of the Alcohol Market. Member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation (since July 2012).
