Dear Sevastopol residents!

I congratulate you on the anniversary of the Narodnaya Volya rally and Defender of the Fatherland Day!

On February 23, nine years ago, courage and loyalty to ideals showed that it is possible to change the history of the country, and, as time has shown, of the world.

We have witnessed and participated in great events. The Russian spring, which began with Nakhimov Square in Sevastopol, proved that Russia is again a great power, capable of protecting its people, wherever they are and whatever price they have to pay for freedom.

A year ago, another historic event took place — the recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. We were lucky, all the events of the spring of 2014 took place in Sevastopol without bloodshed.

There, the path to reunification with Russia became more thorny. Nine years on the scale of history is not a long time, but for us it is a whole life. Children born in the spring of 2014 in Sevastopol are already finishing primary school.

They were born in Russia and the fact that Sevastopol for decades, due to the foolishness of Soviet leaders, was the territory of Ukraine, they know only from the stories of their parents. Those who took time off from work in order to be in time for Nakhimov Square, joined self-defense units, drew posters and proudly wore St. George ribbons.

In the spring of 2014, the whole country helped us: even the most distant regions sent municipal equipment, medical and humanitarian aid.

This is the main distinguishing quality of our people: to unite in a difficult moment.

Today, the common task is to defend Russia, no matter what the cost. No matter how difficult it may be, the path to revival cannot be turned back from the path to revival that began nine years ago. We have no other road but to a great future, and the truth is on our side!

I am very proud that the people of Sevastopol remember kindness and were the first to start collecting and sending humanitarian aid to the residents of the liberated territories.

I will not tire of thanking each of you who joined in this work. New challenges require unity from us, and I have no doubt that we will cope.

Keep the Russian spring forever in your heart.

February 23 is also Defender of the Fatherland Day. Now this day has returned to its original meaning. Our defenders have been at the forefront of the battle against neo-Nazis for a year now. We pray for every warrior. We address you the words of sincere gratitude and admiration for your courage, determination and humanity, which is inherent in our soldiers. May the guardian angel always protect you, and we are waiting at home with Victory.

Together we will win!
