Mine rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Crimea: based in Sevastopol, working in all corners of the peninsula

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Who are mountain rescuers? Often they are confused with «climber rescuers» who help people in the forests and on the rocks. However, in reality, the profession of a mine rescuer is directly related to the mining industry: such specialists work in quarries, mines, and underground construction sites. They are used in cases of fires, floods, collapses and other emergencies at industrial enterprises. There is such a division in our region. It was formed 40 years ago, and now it functions in the structure of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

Our unit is part of the paramilitary mountain rescue squad 21, which is based in Moscow. Geographically, we are located in Sevastopol, but we work throughout the Crimean peninsula. We carry out the tasks of mine rescue services at hazardous production facilities in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The subdivision maintains open pit mining and underground construction facilities, — the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Sevastopol quotes the commander of the paramilitary mountain rescue center of the city of Sevastopol of the paramilitary mountain rescue squad 21 of the FAA «VGSCH in construction» Eduard Aramyan.

Not a single work on the construction of quarries, the laying of tunnels, water conduits and other underground structures, communications can do without their support — employees of the Sevastopol militarized mine rescue point provide methodological assistance to representatives of objects in drawing up emergency response plans. In addition, they contribute to the creation of auxiliary mine rescue teams in the state of enterprises, as well as their training for the purpose of subsequent certification.

At each object of the first and second hazard classes, auxiliary mine rescue teams are created. Their tasks are to immediately respond to an emergency situation: it is these specialists who, before the arrival of professional emergency services, take primary measures to eliminate the consequences of incidents, rescue people and provide first aid to the victims. They are equipped with oxygen-breathing equipment, which is designed for continuous four-hour operation, and auxiliary equipment, which is necessary for reconnaissance and rescue operations., — explains Eduard Aramyan.

The next visit of representatives of the leadership of the paramilitary mountain rescue center of Sevastopol — to the territory near Alushta, where one of the enterprises is building a sewer collector. It is planned to excavate almost a kilometer of underground workings.

At this enterprise, an auxiliary mine rescue team has been created — and documents for its certification have been submitted to the facility commission of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. We conducted an on-site inspection, checked the relevant documentation, the condition of equipment, inventory, and the degree of readiness of personnel to act as intended. There are minor comments, but they will be eliminated in the near future — the team will be recommended for certification for the right to conduct mine rescue operations, — notes the deputy commander of the paramilitary mountain rescue center of the city of Sevastopol of the paramilitary mountain rescue detachment 21 of the FAA «VGSCH in construction, Pavle Polyansky.

Also during the visit, representatives of the VGSP on the ground assessed the specifics and technological conditions of the work, got acquainted with visual phased plans and drawings, and held conversations with the management of the facility. Based on the data obtained, a list of risks will be formed and recommendations for the elimination of possible emergencies will be drawn up.
