More than 150 premature babies have been saved in Sevastopol since the beginning of the year
CrimeaPRESS reports:
After major renovations in 2021, a neonatal intensive care unit was opened for the first time in the building of maternity hospital No. 2. It was equipped with new modern equipment — these are 12 intensive model incubators.
November 17 is International Premature Baby Day, and I want to thank all the medical workers who managed to save the babies. Not even the most modern device is worth anything without people who put all their experience, all their energy into saving lives. Since the beginning of this year, doctors have saved more than 150 children’s lives — these are babies who were born prematurely and children with extremely low body weight. Low bow to our doctors– quotes the press service of the Government of Sevastopol, Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev.
Each set of equipment includes an incubator (incubator), an open resuscitation system, a ventilator, a patient monitor, which monitors the basic parameters of the child’s condition: pulse rate, heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, body temperature, pulse oximetry, syringe dispenser station , which deliver medications to the child’s body at a certain speed.
The high-tech device creates the most comfortable conditions for the baby to stay outside the womb. It is covered with a special cover so that the child is in the dark and loud noises are prohibited nearby. Of course, we cannot completely replace intrauterine development, but we are trying to bring it closer to the conditions in which it was in the womb. – says Vera Plashkevich, head of Maternity Hospital No. 2.
The department also has a mobile ultrasound machine, a gas analyzer, ventilators, and a neonatal hypothermia machine, which is currently the only one in the city.
We have the opportunity to freely work with the help of a gas analyzer — this is a device that allows us to assess the acid-base state of a child, according to which we regulate the operation of ventilators. And, if earlier we had to take blood, take it to the laboratory and wait for the result, today, thanks to this device, we do not have such a need. This device also shows basic vital laboratory indicators. Based on them, we can analyze the child’s condition in more detail and immediately make decisions on the amount of medical and auxiliary care, – emphasizes Vera Plashkevich.
The hypothermia apparatus is also important in the work. It allows you to minimize the situation in which resuscitation measures are required as a result of severe asphyxia.
Up to 1.5% of children are born with severe asphyxia. It is dangerous because the child may develop severe brain damage, such as cerebral palsy. A hypothermia device allows you to place a child in a special box for up to three days and cool it to a temperature of 33.5 degrees. This allows you to slow down all processes that lead to the destruction of the central nervous system“, notes Svetlana Dimenkova, head of the neonatal intensive care unit.
