More than 200 WWII munitions destroyed in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Two days of large-scale pyrotechnic works marked the outgoing week in Sevastopol. So, on April 6, in the area of Eroshenko Street, a German aerial bomb from the Great Patriotic War — SD-250 was found. When examining the object, employees of the Specialized Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol established that the condition and type of the fuse allow transportation.
The main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol was transferred to the emergency mode. The information was passed on to emergency departments and services. A meeting of the Commission for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations and Ensuring Fire Safety of the City of Sevastopol was held. Measures were developed to protect the population and infrastructure. Communications located dangerously close to the site were previously disabled. Through the mobile complex of the Russian Broadcasting and Alert Networks, residents of nearby streets were informed of the need to leave the dangerous territory for the period of the events. Ammunition weighing 250 kilograms was loaded onto a special vehicle and taken to the training ground, where it was liquidated — and with it another 126 artifacts of the military past, which were discovered on the same day— said the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Sevastopol.
The work on April 4 was also fruitful: then the pyrotechnicians simultaneously destroyed more than a hundred ammunition from the times of the Great Patriotic War. All of them were found during the processing of applications from the population in different parts of the city and transported to the special training ground of the emergency department. There, in compliance with security measures — manually, one at a time — the formidable finds were transferred to the place of liquidation and a controlled explosion was carried out.
Various ammunition was destroyed: artillery shells, mortars, grenades. All of them were discovered during excavation and construction works. From the Specialized Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, 7 personnel and 4 pieces of equipment were involved, — says the colonel of the internal service, the head of the Specialized Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the city of Sevastopol Nikolai Tisselsky.
