Murder in Crimea: the prosecution does not agree with the jury's opinion. There will be a new trial

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Crimea, at the request of the state prosecutor, an acquittal in a criminal case of infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim was overturned.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea, having considered the prosecutor’s appeal, overturned the verdict of the Yalta City Court, which found a 54-year-old resident of the region not guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim through negligence). The court’s verdict was made on the basis of a not guilty verdict by the jury— reported the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea.

According to the investigation, the defendant suspected the victim of stealing construction materials and in May 2022, due to hostile relations, inflicted multiple blows on the victim’s head and body with a baseball bat. As a result, the victim suffered various injuries, including fractures of the ribs, skull bones, and hemorrhages in various parts of the brain. The victim died a short time later from his injuries in a healthcare facility.

Having disagreed with the judicial act (remember, the jury… acquitted the killer), the state prosecutor appealed it to the appellate court, which agreed with the arguments of the prosecutor’s office, overturned the verdict and sent the case to the trial court for a new trial.
