New capsule exhibition in Chersonesos — “The World of Knowledge in the Bronze Age”
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On March 7, a unique exhibition will open at the museum-reserve, which will allow visitors to imagine how people lived many thousands of years ago. In the hall of the temporary exhibition hall of the Byzantine exposition, objects from the Copper and Bronze Age, made of stone, silicon, bone, copper, as well as ceramic dishes of the peoples of the Northern Black Sea region will be shown.
The discovery and use of metal played an extremely important role in the history of mankind. During the Copper-Bronze Age, the division of labor arose and a patriarchal clan was formed; ancient people began to use copper for the first time. At the beginning of the Early Metal Age, most products (ground axes, knives, burins, blades, scrapers, arrowheads, darts and spears) continued to be made from stone, bone and wood. However, copper and bronze gradually replaced flint tools from use.
The Chalcolithic — Bronze Age (111 — 1st millennium BC) in the Northern Black Sea region is represented by Yamnaya, Catacomb, Timber archaeological cultures, the study of which allows us to reconstruct the economy, life and ethnic history of the ancient population. The characteristic features of the material culture of the tribes of the Copper Age are: bronze is pottery with ornaments. The triangles and zigzags, circles and spirals depicted on the products reflect the cosmological ideas of the ancient farmers about the solar deity.
A striking example of the complex ornamentation of vessels of the catacomb tribes is a molded vessel found in a mound near the branch of Tauride Chersonesos — the Stone Tomb Museum-Reserve. It can also be seen at the exhibition “The World of Knowledge in the Bronze Age”. The symbolic composition on the surface of the vessel is associated with plant, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic elements that are found (right?) among the petroglyphs of the Stone Tomb.
The new capsule exhibition in Chersonesos will show objects from the Copper and Bronze Ages made from stone, flint, bone, copper, as well as ceramic dishes. You can view the exhibition “The World of Knowledge in the Bronze Age” from March 7 to 18, from Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00. Free admission.
