There are only a few days left until the New Year, and many are already busy decorating their homes, because it is impossible to imagine the main winter holiday without bright tinsel and illumination shimmering with all colors. Sevastopol employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations remind:

The New Year period is also one of the dangerous ones, as the number of fires sharply increases due to violation of fire safety rules. In particular, there are often cases when the cause of a fire is carelessness when using electric garlands.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the city of Sevastopol reminds you of the rules for operating this decorative equipment:

• The instructions for the product must be in Russian, and a certificate must be attached.
• When purchasing, it is imperative to check the insulation of the product (it must be dense, flexible, without damage) and the integrity of all its parts.
• Every year, before decorating your home, you need to carefully inspect the already purchased garlands. It is not recommended to use so-called rare New Year’s electrical equipment — garlands that you might have inherited from your mothers and grandmothers. These relics, of course, remind one of childhood and create a certain spiritual atmosphere, but often their condition leaves much to be desired — they can cause great disaster.

Even if you bought a high-quality garland with a certificate, do not ignore simple safety rules:

• never leave the lights on when you leave home or go to bed;
• Explain to children that electric garlands are not a toy, they should not be touched, much less turned on and off themselves;
• do not twist the wires or tie them into bundles;
• do not use garlands and extension cords intended for indoor use outdoors;
• If there is a pungent odor, the wires are heating up, the lights are blinking uncharacteristically, or there are fragments that are not burning — such equipment is dangerous!
