“Night of Arts – 2023”: a bright end to the holiday at the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Every year at the beginning of November, the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol opens its doors to visitors of the All-Russian event “Night of Arts”. This year, the main venue was the retro cinema «Ukraine», which gave almost two thousand Sevastopol residents a holiday of history, culture and the arts.

At the entrance to the Ukraina cinema, guests were greeted by an officer and townswomen dressed in costumes from the Crimean War period. A photo zone was organized here, stylized as a gun yard and a sentry barrier — everyone could take a photo as a souvenir in real military uniform.

Five thematic master classes gave the guests of the holiday unforgettable emotions. At the “School of Calligraphy,” visitors were greeted by governesses dressed in mid-19th-century images, who talked about the basics of pre-revolutionary writing and taught how to write with quill pens and ink. At the master class on creating a motanka doll, both adults and children made a Russian amulet, which became a pleasant memory of the holiday. Everyone was able to paint a wooden magnet and learn about the heroes of the First Defense of Sevastopol in the foyer of the Ukraine cinema. For those who prefer an active pastime, a master class on performing the sailor dance “Apple” was organized. At another interactive point, guests could learn how to encrypt their message using a flag semaphore.

Visitors who wanted to discover new facts from history were given a tour of the exhibition “Firearms from the collections of the Sevastopol Defense Museum.” They were told about the collection of domestic and foreign small arms, rifles and carbines, and were shown pistols and revolvers, submachine guns and machine guns.

In addition, one could get acquainted with objects from the museum’s collection at the second exhibition “We Don’t Get Bored While Having Tea.” Samovars and teapots, tea table serving items and confectionery packaging from the late 19th century – all of this aroused special interest among visitors. And in order to consolidate the knowledge gained from what they heard at the exhibition, guests were invited to visit the “Tea Salon”. Here ladies and gentlemen shared the intricacies of tea etiquette and details of table setting.

At the “Night of Arts” in the retro cinema “Ukraine” one could not only learn new facts from the history of Sevastopol, but also show off one’s knowledge. The intellectual game “Brain Ring” brought together experts at a common table, and experienced methodologists of the Sevastopol Defense Museum arranged an impromptu lecture so as not to ignore questions from the participants in the intellectual competition.

The quest “Across the Bastions of Sevastopol” was especially popular among teenagers. In the form of a board game, participants walked along the line of fortifications from the first to the seventh bastion, answered questions about the history of the defense of Sevastopol and completed game tasks. Almost every quest team had a group of fans represented by parents and grandparents who tried in every possible way to contribute to the team’s victory.

A concert program was presented to lovers of music, theater and creativity. The literary and musical composition “Sevastopol and Crimea” performed by the theater studio of the Small Academy of Sciences reminded everyone of the heroes of the First Defense of Sevastopol, of the cost of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Together with the young actors, the audience was transported to our time through a journey through the unique natural attractions of Crimea and Sevastopol.

A folk music concert from the Korabel Cultural Complex attracted a full house in the cinema hall. The folk orchestra of Russian folk instruments named after K. Smirnov performed melodies and compositions that are close to every Russian person.

The bright end of the holiday at the Museum-Reserve was the screening of the film “Defense of Sevastopol”. The 1911 film was presented to viewers in a new format: with live accompaniment by the military orchestra of the Sevastopol regiment of the Russian Guard. In addition, the film was dubbed with the participation of the Sevastopol folk group «Rus», the voice of the legendary film was the voice of the People’s Artist of Russia Viktor Sukhorukov. The project was implemented with the support of the RVIO branch in Sevastopol.

Beautiful costumes, theatrical performances, varied concert program. So on November 4th the annual event “Night of the Arts” took place.
