A Nordic walking marathon was held in Sevastopol among people of “silver” age. The organizer of the sporting event was the Sevastopol City Integrated Center for Social Services.
The race, aimed at maintaining active longevity, became part of the “Older Generation” project of the national project “Demography”.
More than 20 active seniors took part in the marathon. It started at a special site in the park of the 60th anniversary of the USSR. Then its participants walked along a picturesque route four kilometers long.
According to the organizers, the distance was adapted for recipients of social services, taking into account their physical capabilities, so that everyone could move at their own pace.
For the older generation, Nordic walking is the most optimal type of physical activity, as it has virtually no contraindications and is a good prevention of many chronic non-infectious diseases– the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the curator of the sports club of the complex center Alla Kolesina.
According to the social worker, recently Scandinavian or Nordic walking has become very popular among Sevastopol residents. More and more active people are joining classes. Therefore, at the numerous requests of Sevastopol residents, the recently held marathon dedicated to World Walking Day was decided to be repeated today.
Nordic walking in the fresh air and beautiful nature lifts your spirits and gives you good spirits. I have been interested in this sport for a long time. And when I found out that the city’s comprehensive social service center was offering special classes, I immediately signed up. I also invited my friends,” notes social services recipient Elena Ugarova.
Elderly people living in the territory of Sevastopol, as well as recipients of social services from the day care department for elderly and disabled citizens can take part in the classes.
