November 18 is the day of Jonah, the day of Galaktion and Epistimia. Time to “magic” and charm

CrimeaPRESS reports:

November 18 was popularly considered a day on which a variety of love magic rituals are excellent. Some girls bewitched their lovers on the night of Galaktion. Sometimes they attracted guys in the following way: they scattered small coins near the house. It was believed that the guys would flock to them like roosters to millet.

The guys, in turn, also looked for brides for themselves. From early in the morning they dressed up, left the house, got together for a walk, showed themselves in all their glory, flirted with the girls they liked, and in the evening escorted them home.

On November 18, the church honors the memory of Jonah, the holy and Russian Archbishop of Pskov and Velikonovgorod, also known as the abbot of the Oten Hermitage. Jonah himself was left an orphan at an early age — at the age of 3 his mother died, and at the age of 7 his father also passed away. Jonah was raised by a pious widow named Natalya Medovartseva, who instilled in her adopted son faith in God. Subsequently, Jonah organized shelters in Novgorod, where the disadvantaged, widows and orphans could live. In addition, he became famous for the numerous miracles that he could perform with God’s help. For example, Jonah managed to stop a pestilence that claimed the lives of 250,000 people. The chronicle says that Jonah made a religious procession to the Zverin Monastery, and this helped him overcome his illness. Subsequently, Jonah was canonized in 1549 at the Makaryevsky Cathedral. His biography says that after the death of Jonah, a large number of miracles occurred near his tomb, and many people for this reason subsequently believed in Christ.
