November 28 is Guryev Day. Snow fell — it won't melt until spring
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On November 28, the people revered Somon, Guria and Aviva, who were known as healers to whom one should pray to get rid of toothache. Our ancestors also considered Guria an assistant in the treatment of eye diseases.
The Church says: three Christian martyrs Samon, Gury and Aviva lived approximately in the 3rd-4th centuries. Tradition says that the laity Samon and Gury lived in the territory of Edessa, but during the persecution organized against Christians by Emperor Diocletian, they left their city. They were subsequently captured and forced to renounce their faith. According to legend, they were subjected to numerous tortures, after which they were thrown into prison for several years.
Deacon Aviva suffered for his faith during the reign of Emperor Licinius. He was arrested and burned alive. But! After such terrible torture, Aviv’s body remained untouched. Relatives decided to bury him in the same tomb with Samon and Gury.
