November 7 is Fedot Day, Women's Cry, Day of the Great October Revolution. Rain or snow, they say, is mandatory
CrimeaPRESS reports:
For many years in the Soviet Union, November 7 was a red day on the calendar. Weekends, holidays, marked by a variety of events, including processions and mass festivities in cities. For those who are in the know, remember those times, but for those who are not particularly strong in history, we tell you: on November 7 (new style), 1917, the Great October Socialist Revolution took place — a coup d’état that changed the life of the entire country and turned it back, from old system to the new. The Bolsheviks stormed the Winter Palace, overthrew the old government and laid the foundation for another state — the Soviet Union, which lasted more than 70 years. The Soviet people celebrated this moment. Wide and large.
As for pre-revolutionary times, people called this day Women’s Lament or Grandfather’s Lament. Elderly women, as well as specially hired mourners, went to the cemetery and cried (“voiced”) for their deceased loved ones, grieved over their untimely departure, and remembered the life and good deeds of their deceased relatives. In addition, every woman considered it her duty on this day to cry properly about her misfortunes, repent of her sins, and cleanse her soul with sincere sobs. It was believed that after this one could calmly face the winter with a pure soul and thoughts.
It was also necessary to help orphans and disadvantaged people. Children left without parents were cared for by the entire village. Under no circumstances should one deceive an orphan or steal something from such a child — this was considered one of the most terrible sins.
Signs of the day:
- On November 7, the earth itself cries — it will definitely either snow or rain on this day.
- Traders cannot travel anywhere with goods — there will be no luck in business. In addition, they cannot eat bread — so that the whole year will be “bread”.
- If you stand in front of a candle on this day and ask deceased loved ones for advice, the solution to the problem will come the very next day.
- Women should not cry into their pillows — the feather remembers tears. The one who then lies down on this pillow will receive all the tears and sorrows. In addition, such a rash action could turn into nightmares for the hostess herself.
- If there is food left in the cemetery after the funeral, it should be distributed to the poor so that they can pray for the deceased.
- If an orphan girl makes a request to her deceased mother on this day, she will definitely fulfill it.
- If an orphan prays to God on this day, heaven will definitely hear this prayer.
- If you were asked for alms on November 7, but you did not give it, this promises trouble.
Name days are celebrated today: Afanasy, Valery.
