October 1 is Arina (Irina) day. And I wish I could fly to warmer lands…

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On October 1, people noted, the cranes set off for warmer climes. It was customary to see them off: when they saw the wedge, they shouted, “The road is by wheel!” This was done so that the cranes would return, because the ancestors believed that cranes were messengers of warmth, and their departure portended cold weather. So, they tried to delay the arrival of winter. True, at this time the first frosts were still observed.

On the same day they began to collect rose hips — they believed that they were the most useful for Arina. The Slavs used it not only for culinary, but also for medicinal purposes. Special vitamin drinks were prepared from rose hips, which were used to strengthen the immune system. They also made jelly and jam. Rose hips made delicious marmalade and jam.

Signs of the day:

  • If geese or cranes are in no hurry to leave their native places, then the cold will not set in for a long time, and the winter will be short and mild.
  • The departure of the cranes promises frost on Pokrov.
  • Usually at this time there is winter (the first snow and frost).
  • If the weeds (weeds) grow quite tall, it means a lot of snow will fall.
  • If by this time the birch tree has not lost its leaves, it means that the snow will fall quite late.
  • This day also marked the end of the collection of porcini mushrooms.

Name days are celebrated today by: Mikhail, Ivan, Sergey, Alexey, Irina, Sophia, Ariadna, Hilarion, Veniamin, Peter.
