It was this ferocious beast that protected Kiriak from robbers and took food from his hands. However, the same lion never dared to touch those people who came to Kiriak for advice or reassurance. The saint died at the age of 109 in 556. Then illness befell him, but Feofan endured the suffering courageously. 4 weeks after his death, Theophanes appeared to one of his novices and asked him to open his own grave. People did this and felt a wonderful fragrance, seeing that the relics of the saint exuded myrrh, healing the sick.
