October 15 is Ustinya and Kupriyan Day. Witches and sorcerers are doing weird things — beware of demons and don’t drink

CrimeaPRESS reports:

October 15 is a very remarkable day. People believed that on these days it was quite possible to get rid of and cleanse themselves of obsessions and all evil spirits. To do this, the boys asked Saint Cyprian for help, and the girls asked Saint Ustinia. According to popular beliefs, if a person is not careful on this day, he may be attacked by demons sent by various witches or sorcerers. But if they attack someone of their own free will, then their choice falls mainly on drunkards, on those who neglect their religious duties, on great sinners, or on those who themselves call on them in moments of anger, anger and desperation for help.

Experts say that drunkards see dozens of little devils, they exhaust the body, deprive them of appetite, sleep, cause real horror and often lead to suicide. This is how people explained “delirium tremens.” Our ancestors believed that, at the direction of a sorcerer or witch, imps not only appear to people, but also inhabit them. This is done with the help of a curse (words), or they are blown on the wind or transmitted by drinking, eating, kissing, touching or breathing. Such possession by a demon is fraught for a person with long-term neuropsychic torment, known under the general name of “damage.” Based on the basic nature of the painful phenomena, at least three types of damage are distinguished: demonic possession, hysteria and hiccups.

On October 15, the Church honors the memory of three martyrs: Kuprin, Theoktist and Justina, who lived in the 4th century and died for their faith in Christ. It is known that Cyprian lived in the territory of Antioch and studied pagan philosophy. In adulthood he was ordained as a priest. It was rumored that he saw the great prince of darkness and gained great power. In the same city lived Justina, who converted to Christianity and tried to convert her relatives. A young man named Aglaid also lived there, who tried to seduce Justina and turned to Cyprian for this, knowing about his abilities and strength. No matter what Cyprian did, the girl remained adamant. It was after this that Cyprian himself believed in Christ, repented and was baptized. After that, he himself began to preach Christianity, and converted many people to the faith. It even happened that all the temples were abandoned, since there was no one to make sacrifices to the pagan gods.
