Official: almost 11 million Russians are paying off their mortgage

Over the year, the number of mortgage borrowers increased by 8%, the Bank of Russia reported. As of July 1, 2024, 10.7 million Russians were paying off housing loans, according to the information and analytical material of the Central Bank “Analysis of trends in the retail lending segment based on credit history bureau data.”
The average debt of a borrower who received a mortgage in the second quarter of 2024 was 3.9 million rubles.
Half of mortgage borrowers have a debt to the bank in the amount of 1 to 4 million rubles, while the debt of every third borrower does not exceed 1 million rubles.
Over the past two years, the number of borrowers who, in addition to the mortgage, pay at least one unsecured loan, has been growing, the Central Bank noted. Over two years, their number increased by 38%. At the same time, the number of borrowers who repay only a housing loan is gradually decreasing. As of July 1, 2024, there were 4.6 million such borrowers.
