Official: private clinics in Crimea refuse to provide abortion services

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Private clinics in Crimea officially notified the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea of their voluntary refusal to provide abortion services. Thus, artificial termination of pregnancy in Crimea will be carried out only in state medical organizations. This was announced by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Crimea, Konstantin Skorupsky.

Earlier, a round table was held in the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea with the participation of the head of the Roszdravnadzor technical department for the Republic of Crimea and the state federal government of Sevastopol, Zaporozhye region and Kherson region Vasily Klimov, the head of the interregional public organization “Russian Unity” Elena Aksenova, the chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea Nonna Bakhareva , Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family Issues, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood Priest Fyodor Lukyanov, relevant chief freelance specialists of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea, heads of commercial medical organizations licensed to provide medical services “termination of pregnancy”. At the meeting, the experience of the country’s constituent entities was reviewed, in which privately owned medical organizations voluntarily refused to provide abortion services.

Managers of commercial clinics were asked to contribute to improving the demographic situation by refusing to perform abortions. Colleagues positively assessed this initiative and today all private clinics in Crimea have officially notified the regional Ministry of Health of their voluntary refusal to provide abortion services,” the press service quotes the head of the Crimean Ministry of Health, Konstantin Skorupsky.

By applying for an abortion to a state medical organization, a woman will be able to make a balanced and deliberate decision regarding the continuation or termination of pregnancy, since she will be informed about the current measures of social support for families with children, and will also undergo psychological counseling.

In all antenatal clinics in Crimea, patients who contact a gynecologist for abortion are referred for psychological pre-abortion counseling. Specialists help a woman understand herself and the reasons for her decision, inform her about possible measures of support from the state, — the minister emphasizes.

Thus, over the nine months of 2023, 1,037 pregnant women (100% of all referred) underwent pre-abortion medical and psychological counseling in Crimea, of whom 219 women or 21.1% decided to continue the pregnancy (for the same period in 2022 — 10.1%) .

In addition, it should also be noted that from September 2024 drugs used to terminate pregnancy are included in the list of drugs subject to subject-quantitative registration. That is, such drugs will be sold only upon presentation of a prescription in the established form. Corresponding changes have been made to the order of the Russian Ministry of Health.
