In all regions from the TOP-30 for issuance of POS loans in January 2024, there was a decrease in their number and volume compared to December 2023. The largest decrease was recorded in the Stavropol Territory, where lending volumes fell by 34%, and the number of issues — by 29%. The dynamics of the average POS lending bill in the regions was mainly negative. Both capitals were the leaders in the decline: in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the average bill for trade loans decreased by 10% and amounted to 104 and 84 thousand rubles. respectively. The average bill for POS loans grew the most in North Ossetia: +4%; growth was also recorded in the Voronezh region. and Dagestan. In the Omsk region. and Krasnoyarsk Territory, the amount of trade credit for the month did not change.
Mikhail Aleksin, General Director of the United Credit Bureau:
Since POS lending is targeted, i.e. used to finance specific purchases, the main factor that determines the rise in prices of goods and services, and therefore the average loan size, is inflation. Also, after the stress of 2022, when Russians switched to a savings model of behavior characterized by savings, caution and self-restraint, in 2023 consumer sentiment, along with appetite for lending, increased significantly.
As for the increase in the average term for new POS loans, several reasons were at work here. On the one hand, an increase in the average bill and an increase in interest rates (due to an increase in the key rate) created the preconditions for a significant increase in the monthly payment. On the other hand, macroprudential regulation was, on the contrary, aimed at reducing the debt burden and forcing creditors to take measures to ensure that loan payments did not increase. As a result, this problem was solved by providing loans for a longer period.
