According to the expert, for many centuries humanity believed that old age is a disease.

But over the past decades, a revolution has occurred in the consciousness of the population. We have come to the conclusion that we must strive for a successful, happy and active old age. And the most important thing is that all this is in our hands — The press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea quotes the professor.
The first component of active longevity is physical health. In order to prevent diseases that can occur in old age, it is important to undergo regular medical examinations and constantly monitor your health.
Starting from middle age, you need to regularly visit the clinic to which you are assigned for preventive purposes. In this way, you can avoid serious diseases in old age — such as diabetes, heart disease, oncological processes, arterial hypertension, which affects many diseases in old age, as well as the state of cognitive abilities, — notes Larisa Korsunskaya.
The second component is socialization and activity in society, communication with people.
If an elderly person is left alone with his old age, he begins to get sick. His emotional state is disturbed, depression occurs, sleep is disturbed, and the feeling of being in demand and being needed disappears. And, unfortunately, this also leads to a decrease in the quality of life in old age.“, the doctor explained.
The third factor that allows you to extend active longevity is cognitive abilities — the preservation of memory, thinking and intelligence.
In old age, you need to find opportunities to receive information and communicate. It’s good if a person begins to be interested in what is happening in the country or the world, begins to look for some interesting facts, perhaps watch some new products — plays or films. Communicating with friends or relatives on the Internet is, of course, good, but nothing can replace live communicationsays the specialist.
Also, the chief Crimean neurologist emphasizes the importance of maintaining physical activity. The easiest way is to walk daily at a moderate pace. Physical inactivity, that is, lack of balanced physical activity, in older people accelerates the aging process and aggravates the course of many diseases associated with age. You can choose a type of activity that will be a joy — for example, walking the dog, dancing, playing with grandchildren, walking with loved ones.
Among the factors that negatively affect human health and provoke the development of diseases in old age, the doctor also named bad habits. For example, smoking is one of the most serious risk factors for the development of circulatory diseases.
Smoking is a proven risk factor for stroke and heart attack, so you need to quit smoking, and the sooner the better. Research shows that if a patient quits smoking before the age of 50, that is, before the natural aging process of the body, then he can avoid the risks of developing cardiovascular diseases associated with nicotine use,” summarizes Larisa Korsunskaya.
