On a trip to Russia for gingerbread: from Kaliningrad to Khabarovsk, masters will build gingerbread attractions

On November 25, the II Gingerbread Art Marathon starts in 6 cities of Russia — a real gastronomic festival, the simultaneous construction of artistic gingerbread objects in the best cultural traditions of the regions. Different time zones and climatic zones not only do not stop the participants, but also bring their own peculiarity — Khabarovsk and Kaliningrad, Murmansk and Simferopol, Novosibirsk and Vladikavkaz will present the most amazing sights of their region. The teams will present their skills, the originality of the idea, the variety of gingerbread materials, decor, and show the local flavor and features of making gingerbread in different parts of our country. Upon completion of construction, an online popular vote will be held throughout the country, based on the results of which nominations will be awarded to each object. In the Northern capital, the grandiose action will continue on December 2, the opening day of the world’s only gingerbread art festival, “The World of Gingerbread.”

The Gingerbread Art Marathon is a vibrant event that conveys our cultural traditions in a simple and exciting way. The gingerbread masterpieces surprise and delight the guests of ArtMarathon for a long time, so it attracts not only residents, but also guests of the city. This is a new cultural and gastronomic format with huge event potential.

Gingerbread exhibits have a long creative life — as practice shows, the finished exhibits are subsequently gratefully accepted by local history museums, theaters, hotels, shopping centers, and travel companies. But the main result of the project is the unification of gingerbread makers, the development of gingerbread business, strengthening the position of gingerbread as the main gastronomic symbol of Russia.

A bit of intrigue: this year the themes of the gingerbread compositions are “Blue Tractor”, “Novosibirsk-Main”, “Five Corners”, “The Whole World is My Temple”, “Gates of Crimea”, “Heart of the City” and “Gingerbread Express”. In 2022, only three cities took part in the first Gingerbread ArtMarathon. In 2023, the project significantly expanded its geography. Leaders of the gingerbread movement are appearing in cities, which means that soon ArtMarathons will become their traditional “calling cards”, and the authorities and organizers of significant holidays and city events will pay attention and invite gingerbread makers to participate in these events. Guests of these events will learn about the history of gingerbread and its rich palette of flavors. And then gingerbread will regain its glory as the national gastronomic symbol of Russia.
