On the eve of Epiphany, divers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in Sevastopol examined the bottom in swimming areas

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On the eve of the Orthodox holiday of Epiphany, divers from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol examined the water area so that the upcoming traditional swimming would take place safely.

There will be 10 places for ablutions in the region. The main place of the ceremony will be the waters of Karantinnaya Bay — on the territory of Tauride Chersonesos. This is a significant place in a spiritual and historical sense, because it is the Chersonesos land that is considered the cradle of Orthodoxy: Saint Prince Vladimir was baptized here.

Bottom inspection work in these places brought the expected “catch.” Soviet-made ammunition from the Great Patriotic War was discovered off the coast of Khersones and in the Radiogorka area. These are six aerial bombs weighing 2.5 kilograms each, as well as 2 mortar mines. Pyrotechnicians of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations transported them to a special training ground and destroyed them through a controlled detonation, – says senior lieutenant of the internal service Maria Timoshenko, head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the city of Sevastopol.

Other foreign objects that could injure people were also removed from the bottom: glass fragments, tin cans, large branches, boards, fittings and other dangerous debris. Particularly many finds were made in the area of Khrustalny Beach, which was significantly damaged by a severe November storm: more than one and a half tons of metal were recovered from the sea — fragments of various coastal structures, including many jagged iron beams up to five meters long.

It is expected that on the Epiphany holiday, security in the ablution places will be ensured by 68 specialists, 14 units of ground equipment and 7 watercraft of the city’s emergency services.
