On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the Crimean Spring, a children's referendum was held at the Artek International Children's Center

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On March 14, a referendum was held at the Artek International Children’s Center. By voting, the Artek residents adopted the Charter, according to which they would live a shift in their children’s camp. The action is timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the expression of the will of the Crimeans to reunite with Russia.

The referendum not only reminded children gathered on Crimean soil from all over the country about the historical decision of the Crimeans to reunite with Russia, but also became a school of citizenship, during which young citizens became acquainted with the basics of democratic procedures, increased the level of legal literacy and political culture, and felt responsibility and involvement in a common cause.

The event took place in all Artek children’s camps. Voting sites with ballot boxes and areas for filling out ballots were equipped. Artek residents answered the question: “Do you accept the Charter of the children’s camp?” and by voting they adopted the laws by which they want to live during their shift in their camp.

The referendum was preceded by a preliminary stage. In each detachment, elections of children’s self-government bodies were held: they elected a detachment commander (captain), as well as a detachment council, where everyone is responsible for their own areas: artistic and creative affairs, sports and recreational activities, work on social networks, etc. During the discussion, the guys created a set of laws for the squad.

And then, at the camp Council, the leaders of the detachments voiced their laws, points of which were included in the draft Camp Charter. The document reflects the moral requirements for the children’s team and establishes norms and rules of behavior.

For example, in the children’s camp “Khrustalny” they approached the drafting of their Charter very creatively, and the rules sound like this: “Pushkin was in Gurzuf and behaved culturally, so you behave the same way”; “Throw your laziness overboard, be active all day long”; “Respect the people around you, and they will respect you.”

But the “Lazurniks” approached the creation of their rules without lyrical digressions: “Justice is above all,” “Discipline in the squad — change with a bang,” “Active support for each other.”

In their charters, the pupils of the children’s center reflected values that will help create that same Artek atmosphere that the children will remember for many years to come, and will also allow them to become a single team and say at the end of the shift: “An Artek member today is an Artek member always!”

Today, each child must make his own decision regarding the adoption of the camp Charter. It’s cool that we participate in the life of the camp and determine for ourselves what rules we should live by. Each of us learned the procedure for holding a referendum and understood the importance of such events. Personally, I am gaining experience here and can become the president of my school— said Milana Mamedova, Pyt-Yakh.

I voted for the adoption of the camp Charter, because it has adequate rules, there is nothing superfluous. WE ourselves wrote the rules, and now we will abide by them. Such an event teaches you to make decisions on your own. In the future, we will have to vote and make our choice. And the Artek referendum is a good preparation for this— Daria Chernousova, Moscow, is sure.

At the end of the Referendum, the work of the counting commission begins — processing of ballots. The results of the referendum will be summed up at a ceremony in each camp.

FOR REFERENCE
Artek has repeatedly held children’s referendums to mark the anniversary of the 2014 Crimean vote on the reunification of the peninsula with Russia. Current issues on the all-Russian agenda were brought up for children’s referendums:

  • 2016 – “Should Artek be recognized as the children’s capital of Russia?”
  • 2017 — “Do you support assigning Artek the status of the children’s ecological capital of Russia?”
  • 2018 – “Do you support the parting words of Artek’s students in the Program of the Decade of Childhood to the President of the Russian Federation?”
  • 2019 – “Do you support declaring 2020 the Year of Children’s Diplomacy?”
