One of the leaders of a banned extremist organization will be tried in Sevastopol

In Sevastopol, a criminal investigation has been completed against a 31-year-old local resident accused of participating in the activities of a religious organization, in respect of which the court made a final decision to liquidate or ban activities in connection with the implementation of extremist activities (part 2 of article 282.2 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The investigative department for the Nakhimovsky district of the city of Sevastopol established that since 2019 the man has been actively involved in the activities of the Sevastopol cell of the religious organization Jehovah’s Witnesses, in respect of which the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation in 2017 decided to liquidate in connection with the implementation of extremist activities. A resident of Sevastopol was engaged in illegal organization of meetings, speeches with the study of religious materials, he himself delivered sermons at meetings on topics approved by higher organizations, propagated extremist ideas using the Internet— reported in the Investigative Committee.
The criminal activity of one of the leaders of the Sevastopol cell of the banned organization Jehovah’s Witnesses (recognized as extremist, banned on the territory of the Russian Federation) was detected and stopped during operational activities by the FSB of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as a result of which, with the forceful support of the OMON «Berkut- The suspect was detained from the Russian Guard.
Searches were carried out at the place of assembly of adherents and the place of residence of the detainee, during which prohibited literature and other illegal materials were found and seized.
At present, the investigation of the criminal case has been completed; all the necessary evidence has been collected confirming the illegal activities of a supporter of an extremist organization.
The criminal case was sent to court for consideration on the merits.
