Opera and Ballet Festival in Crimea: what, where, when

CrimeaPRESS reports:

From April 19 to 27, the Sergei Prokofiev Opera and Ballet Festival will be held in Sevastopol, Simferopol and Yalta. According to Tourist portal of Crimea, the grand event includes seven performances and two gala concerts. They will be presented to the public by theaters from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yoshkar-Ola, Voronezh and Donetsk.

The festival, named after the outstanding composer, pianist and conductor Sergei Prokofiev, will unite the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, the Mariinsky Theater, the K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theater, Kremlin Ballet Theater, Mari State Opera and Ballet Theater named after E.N. Sapaeva, Donetsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

The festival will open with Sergei Prokofiev’s iconic ballet “Cinderella” staged by Voronezh artists. Sergei Sergeevich wrote this performance for the legendary Galina Ulanova, and its premiere took place in 1945. You can see the ballet on August 19 in Sevastopol. The story of the poor girl whom the prince fell in love with will also be shown on April 22 in Yalta. In addition, on April 21 in Sevastopol, the Voronezh troupe will present the one-act ballet “The Jester” — a tragicomedy about a cheerful fairy-tale world in which there is a conflict between harlequins.

Theater named after E.N. Sapaeva from Yoshkar-Ola is preparing for the Crimean public the premiere of the fairy tale ballet “Peter and the Wolf”, the ballet “Romeo and Juliet”, based on Shakespeare’s play about the tragic love of children from two irreconcilable families, and the rarely performed opera “The Love for Three Oranges” – about conspiracy, spell and the triumph of good over evil. The artists will perform on April 21 and 23 in Sevastopol and on April 26 in Simferopol.

The Donetsk Theater will bring to Crimea two ballets to the music of Sergei Prokofiev: its version of “Romeo and Juliet” and the extravaganza “The Kid and Carlson”, based on the fairy tale of the same name by Astrid Lindgren. Both productions are scheduled in the Crimean capital on April 27. At the same time, the choir of this group will perform a fragment of Prokofiev’s cantata “Alexander Nevsky”.

There will also be two gala concerts with the participation of honored artists of the Russian Federation and laureates of international competitions, who are part of the above theaters. So, on April 22, opera soloists will perform in Sevastopol, and ballet stars will perform on April 25 in Simferopol. The symphony orchestra of the theater will be responsible for the musical accompaniment at both events. E.N. Sapaeva.

Our festival is aimed, first of all, at the integration of historically Russian regions into a single civilizational and cultural space of the Russian Federation. The very fact of such a large-scale project, an appeal to the great Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev — a native of Donbass, performances of creative groups and soloists of opera and ballet will have a colossal impact on the consciousness and value orientations of the participants and spectators, — quotes the festival producer, Honored Artist of Russia Aidar Shaidullin, from the press service of the theater. E.N. Sapaeva.
