Over the past two months, 69 accidents involving pedestrians were registered on the roads of Crimea, in which 12 people died and 57 were injured of varying degrees of severity. In order to strengthen preventive work to reduce the accident rate and prevent road accidents involving pedestrians, during the period from March 20 to March 31, the Crimean State Traffic Safety Inspectorate is carrying out a set of preventive measures “Pedestrian. Crosswalk!».
The main goal of the ongoing operation is to reduce the number of accidents and the severity of their consequences, intensify efforts to prevent offenses committed by pedestrians and driversnoted the State Traffic Inspectorate.
Inspectors appeal to all road users:
Drivers should be extremely careful in places where pedestrians may appear on the roadway and remember that in adverse weather conditions pedestrians may have limited visibility (hood, etc.), which can lead to a traffic accident, maintain a safe distance, choose a speed limit taking into account weather conditions.
Pedestrians should follow the rules of safe behavior on the road:
- be as vigilant as possible in the dark and in bad weather conditions. Before entering the roadway, stop, make sure that there is no transport, and if there is, then make sure that the driver sees you and lets you through;
- in the absence of sidewalks, move along illuminated sections of roads and only towards traffic;
- when moving in the dark or in conditions of insufficient visibility, give preference to light-colored clothing, be sure to use reflective elements, because thanks to retroreflective elements, pedestrians in conditions of poor or insufficient visibility are ensured safety on the road;
- Remember that the braking distance of a vehicle on wet or slippery surfaces increases significantly.
