Opinion: bans on migrants working in healthcare should be accompanied by an increase in doctors’ salaries

The leader of the party and faction “A Just Russia – For Truth” in the State Duma, Sergei Mironov, against the background of the introduction of restrictions on the work of migrants in the healthcare system, called for increasing salaries and social support for Russian medical workers.

One after another, Russian regions are introducing restrictions on the work of migrants in various fields, including healthcare. This is absolutely justified and corresponds to the bill of our party, which we introduced a year ago, on the introduction of such bans at the federal levelrecalled the leader of the SRZP. – Medicine is an area where unskilled labor can cause more harm than good. Unfortunately, the vast majority of foreigners who come to us have lower qualifications than their Russian colleagues. So why do we need to reduce the level of domestic healthcare?

At the same time, the politician noted that there remains a shortage of medical workers in Russia, which is estimated at 70 thousand people. The main reason is low wages, overtime and administrative burden.

If the authorities say “A” and introduce restrictions on the work of migrants, then they must say “B” — raise salaries to the level of the May decrees and increase social support for doctors. In particular, young people should be provided with housing and allowances, and their older colleagues should be given early retirement at 55–60 years of age. Otherwise, specialists will continue to go to private clinics. We must not allow public health care in Russia to turn into medicine for the poor — free and useless— said Sergei Mironov.
