Opinion: Drunk drivers should be equated with terrorists
CrimeaPRESS reports:
If a person gets behind the wheel drunk for the second time, he should be deprived of his driver’s license for the rest of his life. This was stated by a member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Biysultan Khamzaev. Earlier, the governor of the Amur region, where on June 14 there was a terrible accident with five deaths when a minivan drove onto the sidewalk at high speed and hit pedestrians, posted on his Telegram channel an announcement of an initiative from the region to tighten penalties for drunk driving. The State Duma supports this proposal. As Biysultan Khamzaev said, this is in agreement with his point of view.
This is not the first year I have been talking about this. Drunk driving should be equated with terrorism. Especially where there are deaths. If you are found drunk driving a second time, it should be a lifelong deprivation of your license. Why risk other people? If this one doesn’t want to drive differently, then don’t drive at all! Innocent people, like those pedestrians on the sidewalk in Blagoveshchensk, should not suffer— quotes «Parliamentary newspaper» deputy.
Khamzaev called the accident in the Amur region monstrous and expressed the opinion that for the culprit of that accident, a life sentence would be a fair punishment, “taking into account what he did.”
The deputy recalled the legislation of Japan, where in case of an accident with victims, not only the drunk driver, but also his sober passenger is responsible. And Biysultan Khamzaev considers this correct: “People around us should not encourage, but show intolerance towards such things.”
The deputy supports the initiative of the Amur Region; he believes that in Russia it is imperative to improve legislation in order to minimize the number of drunk people driving, and it is necessary to act toughly.
I, as a deputy, can only press one button for such tightening. But if I could press more, I would definitely do itsaid Biysultan Khamzaev.
