Osteoporosis Prevention Week takes place in Russia
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Osteoporosis Prevention Week is held in Russia from October 16 to October 22 (in honor of World Osteoporosis Day on October 20).
Osteoporosis is a disease in which the volume of bone mass is reduced and its quality is impaired, which leads to brittle bones and the risk of fractures. Half of people who have suffered at least one fracture as a result of osteoporosis will have another fracture within two years. After the first fracture, the risk of developing a second one increases by 3 times, after the second — by 5 times. Osteoporosis is called a “silent disease” because it may not manifest itself for years. How to prevent the development of osteoporosis:
- Discuss with your doctor the risk factors for osteoporosis and the range of necessary examinations.
- Correct the level of vitamin D in case of deficiency, agree with a specialist on a preventive dose of vitamin D3.
- Consume foods containing calcium. With its deficiency, the risk of osteoporosis is increased.
- Have enough physical activity to avoid losing bone and muscle mass.
