Over 2,000 Sevastopol teenagers vaccinated against human papillomavirus
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Human papillomavirus vaccination is given to prevent infection caused by certain types of HPV and to prevent cervical cancer in teenage girls and some rarer cancers in boys. The vaccine does not contain the genetic material of the virus, is absolutely safe and effective.
At the moment, more than 2 000 children have been vaccinated in Sevastopol. There are more than 2 500 doses of Cervarix vaccine available. This year, the stock will be replenished in order to cover about 5 000 children , — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Department of Health Sergei Grygu.
The optimal age for HPV vaccination is 12 years. Doctors say that it is important that the child is vaccinated before the onset of sexual activity, because after that infection can occur, and there is no cure for the human papillomavirus.
Currently, a regional HPV program is operating in Sevastopol, which includes vaccination. We use the bivalent vaccine «Cervarix» against strains of the 16-th and 18-th types. The choice of vaccination schedule depends on age. For example, if vaccination is carried out at the age of 9 to 14 years inclusive, then a two-stage scheme is applied, if from 15 years — a three-stage , says Yekaterina Solomakha, doctor of the department of organization of medical care for minors at Children’s Polyclinic No. 2.
Vaccination against the human papillomavirus is aimed at preserving the reproductive health of young people and has already shown its effectiveness. Now children are vaccinated centrally in schools. You can also get vaccinated at the clinic at the place of attachment.
