Over the past weekend, gullible Sevastopol residents gave almost three million rubles to scammers

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Over the past weekend, the Sevastopol police were contacted by three citizens aged from 25 to 61 years old who suffered from scammers acting under the pretext of protecting a bank account and under the pretext of investing. The total amount of material damage amounted to more than 2.8 million rubles.

The largest sum was lost to a 61-year-old associate professor of the psychology department at one of the universities, who was called by attackers and, under the pretext of blocking loans in his name, was convinced to apply for a loan on his own and transfer all the funds to a “safe” account. After following the scammers’ instructions, the man lost more than 2.1 million rubles.

In the second case, the scammers called a 25-year-old technician and, under the pretext of protecting his bank account, convinced him to transfer 523 thousand rubles to a dictated account.

The latest victim was a 46-year-old sailor, who was offered by a fake broker to make money by investing on a crypto exchange. Having followed the scammer’s instructions, the man lost 203 thousand rubles.

Dear citizens, remember: alleged problems with your bank accounts, as well as transfers to a “safe” or “reserve” account, are scammers’ tricks! NEVER follow instructions over the phone or you will lose all your money— employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol addressed the townspeople.
