Painters of Crimea and Sevastopol captured the blooming Chersonesos in the open air
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The ancient city of Chersonesos, with its majestic architecture and the spirit of millennia emanating from every stone, always attracts creative people. At the beginning of this week, participants in the 27th creative plein air, organized by the Art Hotel «Ukraine», decided to capture the picturesque spring landscapes of Tauride Chersonesus.
Sevastopol is a very attractive place for artists. Here the weather changes quickly, there is interesting lighting, reflections of the sea, white stone architecture, there are picturesque surroundings and cultural and historical centers, like Tauride Chersonesus. The painter’s main interest is to capture the morning and evening hours, when the light forces the artist to take a fresh look at architecture and landscape. After all, a painting is also a document of time; there is a historical component here– told Head of the exhibition department of the museum-reserve Pavel Khlebovsky.
He noted that a large number of plein air paintings take place in Chersonesos; many artists come here almost all year round, adding that the museum-reserve will further develop cooperation with painters.
Honored Artist of the Republic of Crimea Pavel Shumov noted that plein air artists will paint different places in Sevastopol, but Chersonesos evokes especially warm feelings in him.
Plein air is impressions, this is impressionism, this is the concentration of the artist; you will never paint so many paintings in the studio. We paint in Balaklava and Bakhchisarai, but in Chersonesus there is a special atmosphere, here for the artist there is constant delight. Inspiration comes from above, you feel something, and you want to transfer these emotions to canvas,” the artist emphasized.
