Palliative care for children: a new project of the Crimean Children's Hospice received support from the Presidential Grants Fund
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The project of the Crimean Children’s Hospice «Development of a comprehensive system of palliative care for children in the Republic of Crimea» was highly rated by the Presidential Grants Fund — 82 points. 11,379 public initiatives from 88 regions of the country applied for grant support, and 1,504 socially oriented NGOs received it. The grant amount was 4,995,200 rubles.
For us, the support of the Presidential Grants Fund is a very important indicator. Thanks to the grant, we will continue our cooperation with the Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital, with which we opened a department of palliative care for children last year. This experience, unique for Crimea, showed that the project is in demand: children and parents need it, and we see that in our difficult times, the state is still interested in providing comprehensive assistance to seriously ill children and their families and in developing cooperation between NGOs and the public sector for the good small patients— executive director Anna Ryzhkova comments on the victory in the grant competition.
Thanks to the grant, a register of the need for nutritional support for seriously ill children in the region will be created. All children in the palliative care unit will be provided with specialized nutrition. All orphans will be provided with round-the-clock care and professional care in the hospital of the palliative department. Parents will be able to use the services of social respite (assistance of nannies) in the hospital of the palliative department. The visiting team will continue to operate — a pediatrician and an intensive care anesthesiologist will visit seriously ill children at home. The social worker will help parents in obtaining the necessary social package. Children and their families will receive psychological support during hospitalization and at home.
Crimean children’s hospice is the first charitable organization in the republic that, since 2019, has been providing and developing comprehensive care for seriously ill children with palliative status on a regular basis.
Now 60 children are under the care of the organization, 7 of them are on ventilators, 1 child is on NIV. The hospice buys and delivers to families with terminally ill children the necessary medical supplies, specialized food, medicines, hygiene products, medical equipment, and provides parents of children with social, spiritual and psychological support.
The Crimean Children’s Hospice implements such socially significant projects as «Proparents», «Instead of Mom», «Dobronyanya», «Field Service», «Development of Human Resources for Palliative Care for Children in the Republic of Crimea», «Creation of a System of Comprehensive Palliative Care for Children in the Republic of Crimea» and plans to build a children’s hospice building by the sea.
