Patriotic action «Flag of the Motherland» took place in Sevastopol

In his welcoming speech, the director of the Sevastopol Defense Museum, Mikhail Smorodkin, congratulated all Russians and residents of the Hero City of Sevastopol on the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation. He emphasized that unfurling the flag on the sacred height of Sapun Mountain has become a good tradition and annually attracts many people who want to touch one of the main symbols of the state.

Traditionally, every year on August 22, the Sevastopol Defense Museum holds the «Flag of the Motherland» event on the sacred Sevastopol heights of Sapun Mountain. We invite everyone to take part in it and touch the largest canvas of the Russian tricolor. Sapun Mountain is a place of glory. For every Sevastopol resident, for every Russian, this is a sacred place. For me, the Russian tricolor symbolizes everything that is most precious – our peaceful sky, our endless sea, and the red color is the blood of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, which abundantly watered the Sevastopol land. Today we remember veterans, think about the future. And we think about our speedy Victorythe State Duma deputy emphasized.

A memorial ceremony and flower-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame took place at the Glory Obelisk to the Liberator Soldiers.

The Russian flag unites the traditions of patriotism, love for the Motherland and service to it, the traditions of our labor and military valor. I would like to congratulate everyone on this wonderful holiday and wish that our country prospers, that the Crimean Peninsula and Sevastopol always be the Russian world, – says Ekaterina Altabaeva.

Keeping with tradition, on the square in front of the diorama building «Storming Sapun Mountain on May 7, 1944», employees of the Museum of the Defense of Sevastopol, the museum-reserve «Chersonesos Taurica», honorary guests and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Armed Forces, the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation and the Young Army unfurled a Russian flag measuring 45 by 17 meters to the national anthem.

The Russian flag is known throughout the world. It is a symbol of the power and greatness of our state. The Russian tricolor unites representatives of different nations and faiths. It awakens in each of us the best patriotic feelings and a sense of pride for the country. We look up to the state flag when we serve and when we celebrate victories. Today, the tricolor inspires the exploits of soldiers — participants in a special military operation, – stated Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Vladimir Nemtsev.

As part of the campaign, Sevastopol volunteers also distributed tricolor ribbons to visitors to the memorial complex.
