Pediatrician found guilty of causing death by negligence to schoolboy from Simferopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was found by the court to be sufficient to convict a pediatrician of the department of medical care for children in educational institutions in Simferopol. The woman was found guilty of causing the death of a 15-year-old boy through negligence due to improper performance of her professional duties (Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The Investigative Department for the Zheleznodorozhny District established that the said employee carried out medical activities in one of the city’s schools. In September 2022, after passing an annual medical examination, the senior school student was assigned the third health group and a special medical group for physical education classes.

However, in March 2023, a pediatrician, knowing that the young man had a heart condition and restrictions on physical activity, did not familiarize herself with the competitions of the sports relay race held at the school and issued a medical clearance for the teenager to participate in the games. As a result, on the afternoon of March 28, while running at the school stadium, the young man became ill and was taken to the hospital, where he died.the Investigative Committee reported.

According to the forensic medical examination, the schoolboy died from cardiomyopathy complicated by acute cardiovascular failure.

Yesterday, the court found the accused guilty of the crime incriminated to her, and sentenced her to 1 year and 8 months of restricted freedom with deprivation of the right to practice medicine for a period of 2 years.
