Please note: scammers buy accounts in instant messengers for their schemes

Krympress reports:

Fraudsters massively purchase or rent accounts in instant messengers. Their owners are paid remuneration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said. At the same time, through rented accounts, attackers deceive people, blackmail, recruit participants to prohibited organizations. For leasing the account may threaten liability up to imprisonment, reminded of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Having passed your account [в мессенджере] For rent, you become an accomplice in a crime, the responsibility for which is provided for in Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”, — They said in management, adding that the article provides for a punishment of imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Rent and sale of accounts in messengers is a serious threat to cybersecurity. Often, owners who transmit access to their accounts do not realize all the consequences, but it is their accounts that become tools for deception and illegal activity, said Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Technologies and Communications, the Federal Coordinator of the Digital Russia party project.

This type of fraud is beneficial to criminals, as it allows them to hide their identity. Leased accounts complicate the work of law enforcement agencies, since crimes are committed from numbers registered on real people. As a result, the evidence base is eroded, and real attackers remain in the shadows, while owners of the accounts submitted can be responsible, ”the deputy said.

Users should understand that the transfer of accounting data to third parties is not just a violation of user agreements of instant messengers, but also a real risk of criminal liability, Nemkin added.

To avoid problems, it is important to observe Cybergigiens: never transferred your accounts to anyone, use two -factor authentication and monitor activity in your accounts. In addition, if you are offered to rent an account for a reward, it is worth promising to inform law enforcement— concluded the parliamentarian.
