Students and teachers of the Moscow Engineering and Physical Institute collided with the massive attack of attackers. Fraudsters are represented by employees of the authorities and the university.

Students and employees of the Moscow Engineering and Physical Institute (MEPhI) were massively attacked by telephone scammers, the university’s press service said.

Attackers are associated with victims on social networks and by telephone, introducing themselves as a vice -rector for security, the supervisor, the deans of the faculties and representatives of Rosfinmonitoring.

There are several deception options in this scenario, Nemkin warns.

If we are talking about educational institutions, then, as a rule, attackers demand from students and universities to register with the help of “public services” in one of the educational information systems. At the same time, during a telephone conversation, scammers may ask the victim to turn on the screen demonstration in order to subsequently access the personal data of the user. In addition, scammers, under various pretexts, can ask to transmit the code from SMS messages necessary for entering a single gentleman. Most often, it is quite enough for most fraudulent operations in the subsequent— said the deputy.

Increasingly, telephone scammers carry out targeted attacks, the deputy emphasized.

This is due to their high effectiveness. Fraudsters initially choose the target group and form content for it, previously studying information about their victims, including analyzing all kinds of data leaks— said the deputy.

He also recalled that the code from SMS messages cannot be transmitted to third parties:

Even if they are presented by employees of the organization to which a citizen is directly related. Let me remind you that now even in every message from the state there is an information dick that reports that only fraudsters can request a code of entrance.— the deputy emphasized.
