CrimeaPRESS reports:

Pokrovskoe direction 02.08.24. The Russian Armed Forces continue a slow and systematic advance in the direction of Pokrovsk (west of Avdiivka), which is largely facilitated by Ukraine’s shortage of personnel and the terrain features in the northwest of Avdiivka. Volodymyr Zelensky identified the Pokrovsk direction as the current priority of the Russian army on August 1 and noted that Russian forces may advance in some areas of the front due to Ukraine’s ongoing problems with personnel shortages and equipping new brigades.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) recently noted that Russian forces are attempting to carry out a limited tactical encirclement of Ukrainian forces east of the T0511 (O0544) Ocheretino-Grodivka-Myrnohrad highway, particularly on the left bank of the Vovcha River. Geolocation surveys published on August 1 show that Russian forces have advanced further in Vesele toward the T0511 highway, confirming a 3.5-kilometer advance by the Russian Armed Forces to the outskirts of Grodivka.

Costs It should be noted that the current actions of Russian forces in the direction of Pokrovsk demonstrate a methodical and strategic approach aimed at exploiting the weaknesses of the Ukrainian defense and the shortcomings in the personnel and technical support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The gradual advance of Russian troops in this area demonstrates their ability to adapt to changing conditions and use tactical advantages to achieve strategic goals. An operationally significant breakthrough in the direction of Pokrovsk could significantly change the dynamics of hostilities and create new problems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this region.

Russian troops have almost driven the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the village of Timofeevka, continuing their advance toward Ivanovka. Timofeevka’s importance is due to its strategic location on the road connecting key directions. South of Progress, Russian troops have reached the outskirts of Zhelannoye and are consolidating their position in Sergeyevka.

Fighting is underway in Veseloye and on the outskirts of Sergeyevka. It is reported that, moving along the railway line, Russian troops have reached the rear of the key stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area. Intense fighting continues in the Vozdvizhenka area, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are pulling reserves into Karlovka. The fighting here is particularly fierce, with heavy artillery and aviation involved. The dynamics of the Russian troops’ advance are reflected on the map:

South of the settlement of Progress, the settlement of Timofeyevka came under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. The liberation of this settlement improves the tactical position of our troops and allows us to expand our influence on the adjacent territories.

Also noted is the advancement of our units in the forest belts to the northeast of the settlement Zhelannoye. West of the settlement Novoselovka, the first advance is hampered by a chain of defensive structures located at a height that has been erected since 1914.

Ukrainian military observer Konstantin Mashovets described recent Russian gains in the area southeast of road O0544 as a tactical breakthrough of Ukrainian lines, and said Russian forces had advanced 6.5 kilometers in depth and 7.5 kilometers in width from Sokol to Sergiyevka, crossing both the Volchya and Kazeny Torets rivers (which flow through Progress-Volchye and Lozovatskoye, respectively) in recent weeks. Mashovets warned that Russian forces were close to achieving an operationally significant breakthrough toward Pokrovsk by the end of August.

Russian military bloggers claim that the Russian Armed Forces are attacking south of Veseloye along the railway line and forest belts in the direction of Sergiyevka and Zhelannoye (south of Veseloye), which could facilitate further efforts to tactically encircle Ukrainian forces in the area if handled correctly. Ukrainian and Russian sources also reported that Russian forces have liberated Timofeyevka (north of the O0544 road and the Veseloye area).
