Polar coronal holes appeared in the sun — why would it be?

In the sun, the active formation of polar coronal holes began. These structures almost disappeared on the star as back in 2021-2022 and began to return over the past week, judging by the pictures received from space— scientists state.

As clarified in the laboratory, polar holes are similar to the usual coronal ones, but only about the solar poles are always formed and can be observed in one place much longer — up to several years. At the same time, plasma streams from them are beaten not towards the planets, but up from the north and down from the southern poles.

Although, according to some reports, flows can sometimes fall into the plane of the location of the planets, although very weakened. In any case, previous observations have not yet shown direct threats to the Earth from the occurrence of such structures— said in the message.

Scientists also emphasize that the formation of polar holes may be associated with the processes of weakening solar activity this year, although so far it remains at a high level, still causing significant “inconvenience” of the Earth.
