Police warn: online scammers have successfully tested a new “bank scam” scheme
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea is talking about a new “scheme” with the help of which online scammers rob gullible citizens.
The step by step diagram looks like this:
The scammer calls the victim and introduces himself as a bank employee. It asks you to install a new banking application because the previous one is outdated or no longer supported.
The attacker then sends a link via SMS that leads to a place where you can download an updated version of the banking client — in fact, this is a virus application that steals user data.
Once the victim has installed the program and given all permissions, the program steals passwords and card details. The money instantly disappears and ends up in the accounts of the deceivers.
To avoid downloading a fake program, remember: banks send out information about new versions of the application only through their official channels. Find reliable information about installing and updating your bank’s application on its official resources. No matter who the strangers who contact you pretend to be, do not download programs from their dictation.,” the Crimean police emphasized.
