Preferential loans and subsidies: Crimean gardeners and vegetable growers expand production

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Thanks to the development of concessional lending programs, grant support, the provision of federal and regional subsidies to Crimean farmers, new fruit and berry orchards appear in the region every year, and areas for growing vegetables expand. In addition, producers get additional opportunities to expand their capacities for storing harvested crops and modernize production in general. As a result, the volumes of the harvest of local products are increasing, which has a deterrent effect on price growth in the region. For more information on the situation in the constituent entities of the country, see report Bank of Russia «Regional economy».

The volumes of Crimean production are growing every year. For example, a horticultural enterprise in the Eastern Crimea continues to implement major investment projects for laying apple and cherry orchards and building a fruit storage facility for 16,000 tons of products. It is planned to be fully operational this year. Today, the enterprise’s fruit trees occupy an area of more than 320 hectares, including thanks to subsidies. Peach orchards are also expanding: last year, Crimean gardeners received subsidies for planting more than 100 hectares, this year — another 75. The current peach crop is planned to be harvested from about 870 hectares and it will be on the markets not only in Crimea, but also in other regions of the country.

In addition, for the second year in a row, the production of Crimean vegetables has been subsidized. This year, as in the past, more than 30 million rubles have been allocated for compensation to entrepreneurs. Farmers use these funds to purchase seeds, plant protection products and fertilizers. Thanks to support measures and the resumption of the supply of Dnieper water, the vegetable harvest in 2022 increased by 10%. An increase in the collection of vegetables and potatoes is also expected this year, as irrigation is available to even more farms.

At the same time, ensuring the safety of the harvested crop further restrains the growth in prices for vegetables and fruits in the region. Now there are 70 storage facilities in Crimea with a total capacity of 124,000 tons. By the end of 2028, 8 more storage facilities for 34,000 tons will appear. From the beginning of 2024, a support measure will also begin to operate — an increased subsidy for the construction and modernization of vegetable stores.
