Problems and prospects for the development of the Russian world discussed in Crimea

CrimeaPRESS reports:

A regular meeting of the Livadia Club took place.

“The Russian World at a Turning Point” is the main topic of the next plenary meeting of the Livadia Club within the framework of the XVI International Festival “The Great Russian Word”. Well-known Russian political scientists and sociologists, philosophers, journalists, historians and public figures discussed the problems and prospects of restoring Russia’s natural borders after the end of the special military operation.

As noted in his speech Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov, Russia must return its positions in the Black Sea region in the scale of its presence in this region at the end of the 18th — beginning of the 19th centuries.

It was within these limits that the Russian world began to develop a new space for itself, rapidly turning it into Novorossia. Russian people, together with representatives of local nationalities, transformed this region, making it a prosperous, dynamically developing region of the Empire. After the collapse of the USSR, along with the external contour, the internal one, which was formed by the union republics, collapsed. As a result, by the beginning of the 21st century, Russian borders rolled back to the borders of the beginning of the 17th century. Ideally, we should strive to restore lost positions — to enter the western borders of the USSR and create an external security loop around themVladimir Konstantinov said.

He is convinced that the minimum program for today is the liberation of the entire territory of the new Russian regions and their inclusion in the Russian Federation as a whole — within the former administrative boundaries.

But it is obvious to me that the preservation of the Black Sea coast as part of Ukraine, such cities as Odessa, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk (the Russian city of Yekaterinoslav), is impossible. In a word, the entire territory of the former Ukraine should be returned to the bosom of the Russian world or political conditions should be prepared for such a return.— said the speaker of the Crimean parliament.

He also drew attention to the need to start the process of Russian cultural resuscitation in Crimea as soon as possible, namely, to delicately remove traces of the colonial past, indicating attempts to Ukrainize the peninsula, which is reminiscent, for example, of the toponymy of Simferopol.

The discussion on this topic was joined by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, Head of the CIS Countries Institute, historian, publicist Alexander Shirokorad; Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Dmitry Tabachnik; PhD in History, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the Taurida Academy of KFU V.
