Regatta «Remember» started in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today was the solemn opening ceremony of sailing competitions on the territory of the yacht club «Kazachya Bay». The race will run over three days and will feature more than 100 athletes. This year the regatta is dedicated to the memory of Andriy Paliy, Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet, captain of the 1st rank, hero of a special operation who died in Mariupol while performing combat missions. Andrei Paly was awarded the Order of Courage posthumously.
For the Hero City of Sevastopol, sailing is a basic sport. The “Remember” regatta in cruising yachts is a competition that has been held since 2016. The catalyst was the desire of sailing athletes to pay tribute to great people, heroes who glorified Sevastopol, thanks to whom our city is called legendary— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head of the department for youth and sports, Sergei Reznichenko.
Also in 2023, the Sailing Federation, with the assistance of the Commander of the Black Sea Fleet, decided to time the competitions to coincide with the 240th anniversary of the creation of the Black Sea Fleet and dedicate them to the memory of the valiant admirals who stood at the origins and led it to military glory: Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov, Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev, Fedor Fedorovich Ushakov.
