Residents of Sevastopol are invited to undergo anonymous HIV testing

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Until May 19, testing is taking place in a mobile outpatient clinic on Nakhimov Square as part of the All-Russian campaign “STOP HIV/AIDS”, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of victims of this disease. The main goal of the campaign is to increase the level of awareness of residents on issues related to HIV infection.

The importance of timely diagnosis of HIV infection cannot be overestimated, especially in the case of an asymptomatic stage of the disease. Only early detection of the virus can help prevent the complete destruction of the patient’s immune system through treatment, and therefore increase his chances of a longer and more comfortable life.— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Natalya Arkadova, an epidemiologist at the city AIDS Center.

HIV testing using rapid tests in a mobile outpatient clinic, pre-test and post-test counseling by doctors and psychologists were available all day today.

Also during the day, a survey was conducted among residents aged 18-60 years to clarify the level of awareness of HIV infection and tolerance towards people living with this disease. Today, more than 150 people were tested, including those who knew about their status. They decided to support this action by their example.

Those who did not have time to get tested today can come to the mobile outpatient clinic on Nakhimov Square on May 18 and 19. Testing is carried out from 10:00. Also, on any day you can contact the Sevastopol AIDS Center at 40 Kommunisticheskaya Street and get tested for free. This can be done every weekday from 08:00 to 13:00.

The event was organized by the Sevastopol Health Department, the city infectious diseases hospital, the Sevastopol AIDS Center, the autonomous non-profit organization “Life” and activists of the organization “Medical Volunteers”.
